A winter engagement in formal wear, from the Hollywood Sign trails to the glowing lampposts of LACMA at dusk.

We photographed Yu jeong and Edward on a clear January day in the hills, where winter rain had turned the slopes below the Hollywood Sign an improbable green. She wore a white tea length dress and carried a small bouquet of white roses, he wore a classic tuxedo, and the two of them stood together on the dirt trail with the letters rising behind them. The sky was that hard clean blue Los Angeles saves for the days after a storm.

By late afternoon we were at Griffith Observatory, trading the trail for Art Deco bronze doors and long curved terraces. Yu jeong added a short veil, and they walked the parapet hand in hand with the whole basin of the city spread out behind them, downtown's towers catching the low winter sun. Some frames are formal, but our favorites are the ones where they simply cracked each other up.

We finished at LACMA as the light went gold, first among the lampposts of Urban Light, then beneath the great boulder of Levitated Mass with streamers flying against a fading sky. One day, three landmarks, and a couple who dressed for the occasion like the classic Hollywood leads they are. January 12 gave Yu jeong and Edward the softest possible ending, warm globes of lamplight coming on just as the city turned pink.
