Tanisha & Chirag
On a fog wrapped stretch of Los Angeles sand, Chirag set a picnic table for two and asked Tanisha the only question that mattered.
The marine layer never lifted on the last Monday of March, and honestly we hope it never does when a morning looks like this. We photographed Tanisha and Chirag on a wide, empty stretch of Los Angeles beach where the fog erased the horizon and turned the whole world into soft grey light. In the middle of all that quiet sat one white fringed umbrella, a low picnic table dressed in white linen and a rust colored runner, and a small letter board that read, Tanisha, play the video.
Chirag had planned every detail of the picnic, from the coupe glasses and the sparkling water chilling in an ice bucket to the cornhole boards waiting in the sand. After the question came the easy part, the two of them wrapped up together under the umbrella, Tanisha in a powder blue satin gown and Chirag in a plum suit, with beach houses drifting in and out of the fog behind them.
Then they did what you should always do after saying yes on a beach. They kicked off their shoes, took each other by the hand, and ran straight into the surf, hems soaked and laughing while the waves rolled white around their ankles. The fog gave us the kind of hushed, cinematic light we dream about, and Tanisha and Chirag gave it all the warmth it needed.
